Liberec in the Spotlight of Digital Manufacturing
Last week, the Czech Republic joined the ranks of countries hosting the world's most prominent event dedicated to digital manufacturing for the very first time. FAB25, an international gathering of representatives from FAB labs, universities, maker spaces, and tech companies, brought hundreds of experts from around the globe to Prague and other cities. And we at CXI TUL were there – right in the heart of it all.

Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic and the Economic Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, FAB25 also welcomed delegations from Austria, Tanzania, and Nigeria. We are proud that our Institute for Nanomaterials, Advanced Technologies and Innovation (CXI TUL) was one of the visited stops on their program.
During the visit, we presented our research laboratories, technologies, and, last but not least, the National Competence Centre for Industrial 3D Printing, which we showcased together with our long-term partner Prusa Research.
"Digital manufacturing is a way to produce faster, more efficiently, and more sustainably. Here at CXI at the Technical University of Liberec, we combine materials research, simulations, and actual production – and it was this synergy that impressed our guests the most," says Jiří Šafka, industrial 3D printing expert and guarantor of the research area Competitive Mechanical Engineering.
In the research-focused part of the program, we demonstrated our expertise in 3D printing from thermoplastics and photopolymers (FDM/SLA) as well as prototype casting into silicone molds, and explained how these solutions are directly applicable in real industrial practice.

The delegation had a truly international composition:
- Interdisciplinary Transformation University Austria (IT:U)
- Johannes Kepler University Linz – Linz School of Education
- University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
- Donetsk National Technical University
"It was great to see how 3D printing at CXI TUL impresses not only with its technical facilities but also with a clear vision of how to integrate additive manufacturing into real industry. We look forward to further cooperation," adds Jiří Průša, B2G Sales Manager at Prusa Research.
On behalf of the entire CXI team, we would like to thank the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Economic Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for supporting international collaboration. Thanks to their efforts, Liberec became, for a brief moment, a global meeting point for those who believe the future of manufacturing is digital, connected, and accessible.
