Miroslav Černík's guest was scientist Karolína Morávková

17. 10. 2025

The director of our CXI TUL, Prof. Dr. Ing. Miroslav Černík, CSc., now has his own radio show called Setkání u mikrofonu (Meeting at the Microphone). In it, he introduces interesting personalities from the fields of science, research and innovation. His recent guest was young scientist Karolína Morávková, who connects the worlds of reproductive biology and nanomaterials.

Karolína graduated from the Faculty of Science at Charles University, where she researched communication between eggs and sperm. After maternity leave, her professional path turned to CXI, where she is now pursuing her doctoral studies in the use of nanofibres and polymer materials in reproductive biology.

Her team is developing nanofibre layers made of polylactic acid (PLA), which break down in the body into lactic acid – a substance that naturally supports healthy microflora. "It is not a drug, but a carrier that helps maintain natural balance," explains the scientist.

This innovative approach earned her the Award for Women Innovators in the Falling Walls Lab Czech Republic 2025 competition, which opened the door to the world finals in Berlin.

Karolína Morávková's team sees the potential of their application not only in gynaecology, but also in veterinary medicine, especially in livestock breeding. It is there that its introduction into practice could take place more quickly and effectively.
