Project:
HYDRated electrOn: the alCHEMIST stone of the water treatment CZ
Registration number:LL2501
Realization period:01.09. 2025 – 31.08. 2027
Leader at TUL:dr hab. Ing. Stanislaw Witold Waclawek, Ph.D.
The project HYDRated electrOn: the alCHEMIST stone of the water treatment CZ (acronym HYDROCHEMIST CZ) focuses on research and development of new methods for the generation and application of hydrated electrons for more efficient water treatment and degradation of persistent contaminants. The main objective is to understand more about the structure of hydrated electrons, to reduce the energy consumption of their generation and to increase the selectivity of their reactions with problematic substances such as PFAS and other persistent organic pollutants. The project uses a combination of ab initio/DFT (QCC) calculations, supramolecular approaches and innovative detection methods to enable more efficient use of hydrated electrons in real water treatment conditions. The outputs of the project may lead to new strategies in environmental chemistry, especially in the field of reduction processes and removal of pollutants from water.
