Project:

Reclamation of mining heritage in the context of climate change

Registration number:100787335

Realization period:01.04. 2026 – 31.12. 2028

Leader at TUL:Mgr. Veronika Hlaváčková, Ph.D.

The aim of the project is to propose innovative solutions to existing reclamation strategies with regard to climate change. The first pillar focuses on environmental risk analysis and includes: 1) development of a prediction model describing possible environmental risks associated with climate change, 2) development of a hydrological model of selected sites, 3) identification of uncertainties in geochemical parameters with respect to climate change. The second pillar focuses on the design and implementation of pilot experiments to test innovative mitigation approaches. The results of the first two pillars will form the basis for developing strategies to 1) safely use water resources coming from areas of indigenous mining and ensure ecosystem stabilization due to climate change, 2) ensure geomechanical stability of at-risk mining wastes to prevent environmental contamination due to climate change, and 3) develop strategies to mitigate pollution due to changed conditions. Another output will be the development of a strategic plan for the prevention of disasters leading to environmental contamination by heavy metals due to climate change.
